About the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN)

The Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), located in Thiruvarur, is a hub of academic excellence and innovation. Our institution proudly hosts 13 Schools with 29 dynamic Departments, fostering a diverse and enriching learning environment. We are committed to comprehensive education, offering an extensive range of 64 academic programmes designed to cater to varied interests and aspirations. These include 29 research programmes, 22 specialized programmes, 6 integrated programmes, 2 undergraduate programmes, and several postgraduate diploma courses. Through strategic collaborations with prestigious institutions such as the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles & Management, Coimbatore, and the Salim Ali Center for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), Coimbatore, CUTN further extends its academic reach, providing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes via industrial and institutional partnerships. Additionally, the Central University of Tamil Nadu houses a Community College, offering B. Voc. programmes alongside various certificate and diploma courses to address diverse educational needs. Recognized for its academic excellence, CUTN holds the following distinctions: 83rd rank in NIRF, 12th in IIRF, 55th in the Nature Index, and is accredited by NAAC with an A+ grade.

 

About the Department of Library & Information Science

The Department of Library and Information Science at the Central University of Tamil Nadu, established in 2017, aims to nurture highly skilled professionals in the field. With experienced faculty, a modern curriculum, and state-of-the-art facilities, the department offers a world-class educational experience. It provides a two-year Postgraduate Programme in Library and Information Science (M.Lib.I.Sc.) and a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science. Students are trained in professional competencies, preparing them for diverse career opportunities in libraries at educational institutions, research and development centers, corporate sectors, archives, the publishing industry, and organizations handling information products and services. The curriculum is further enriched by industry experts who provide practical insights through initiatives like library visits and lecture series conducted both online and offline.
